Summary:
Under general supervision in an outpatient Dermatological setting, delivers excellent patient care directly or indirectly through assisting the Medical Practitioner in specialized medical procedures.
The Medical Assistant is responsible for the proper and prompt preparation of the patient for the history, examination, and surgical procedures, education of the patient for prevention and treatment of skin diseases, and maintenance of a safe, clean, orderly and efficient office that operates in a timely manner.
Responsibilities:
Maintains examination rooms' cleanliness, organization and inventory.
Prepares examination rooms for all procedures each day.
Accurately documents history, medications, allergies, examination, diagnoses, and all procedures performed as outlined by the Medical Practitioner.
Assists with direct medical examinations and surgical procedures as outlined by the Medical Practitioner.
Delivers to the front office personnel a properly coded encounter form for patient check-out.
Handles all collected specimens and accurately documents necessary tracking information in biopsy and/or cancer log, and maintains all other tracking systems that the Administrator or Medical Practitioner deem necessary to ensure quality of patient care.
Cleans any spills of patient accidents.
Maintains a timely schedule by loading patients into examination rooms and preparing patient histories.
Reports problems or irregularities.
Maintains stocks of medicines and medical supplies as necessary.
Attains a proficient level of education to advise patients on specified medical issues such as skin disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, wound care, warning signs of infection, skin emergencies and office pharmacy products within established parameters.
Writes and/or calls in prescriptions properly under the Medical Practitioner's supervision and documents accurately medication(s) prescribed and any applicable drug(s) side effects.
Keeps patient charts orderly and files charts as necessary following the Practice's filing systems.
Cleans, packs and sterilizes required surgical instruments.
Maintains all medical equipment as per manufacturer suggested maintenance procedures including but not limited to the autoclave, refrigerator, cryovac, and hyfrecator.
Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods following universal precaution OSHA rules.
Schedules and monitors patient appointments; may coordinate routine office activities and administrative functions in support of unit activities.
Educates and advises patients on specified follow up medical issues through personal or phone discussions and documents all discussions in the patient's chart.
Ensures strict confidentiality of all records.
Performs a variety of general clerical duties and medical assistant responsibilities when necessary.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Bilingual (English / Spanish) preferred.
Completion of any and all mandatory certifications.
Ability to obtain a passing score of 80% on any and all examinations administered.
Ability to perform standard clinical procedures according to established protocols.
Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments.
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
Knowledge of inventory management practices.
Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment.
Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
Knowledge of outpatient clinical administrative procedures.
Ability to develop and maintain record-keeping and filing systems.
Strong ability to interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, often in stressful situations.
Ability to gather, verify data input, and correct errors.
Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Ability to orient and train selected staff when necessary.
Ability to organize resources, prioritize and complete all responsibilities in an efficient manner LOCATION:

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
